It’s as much remembering things as anything else.I bought the SK hynix s31 500gb for my mac mini late 2012. I love it but going to OSX after using and building PCs for longer than I care to remember has been, at times, a steep learning curve. Given that my iMac is a light use domestic machine (toy?) it will stay as it is. Only one word to describe it - BRAVE and not for me! When you had your HDD swapped out did you in fact have it physically changed or did you plug in a SSD and then load the operating system onto the SSD and run from there? Did you go USB3 or Thunderbolt? Out of curiosity I Googled ‘Changing an iMac HDD and was amazed to find that it is possible to remove the screen to gain access to all the electronics. I used the Apple info page on memory to make sure that I bought the correct sticks. I chose the 4GB size as for the price paid/use the iMac gets it was the sweet spot. Like you I have fitted Crucial 2X4GB sticks bought from ebuyer for about the same as you paid and like you found - very easy to fit. Better by far would be a large SSD connected via one of the Thunderbolt ports.Īh well I'll cross that bridge when I get to it and Time Machine should see me safe. Replacement is not an option as it would require removal of the screen to get at it. Because it is so small in capacity (32GB - tight sods Apple) it can be worked quite hard and as a result can be prone to early failure due to a large number of read/writes on the same sectors. As I understand it the SSD part is an entirely separate drive located on Port 0 the HDD is connected on Port !. Hopefully someone will know about DriveDX as it seems to be the answer for keeping and eye on the SSD part of the Fusion drive.

(They are on a special at only £17.02 each, plus the usual p&p. However I have identified what is needed and have ordered 2 X 4GB strips from Ebuyer. Apple will not allow it due to security concerns. I have been on the Crucial Site and their app does not run on either my Mac or my son's Mac mini.
